Akanksha partners with Ed Village

Akanksha is excited to partner with EdVillage, a U.S. based nonprofit that is seeking to support networks of schools serving children from low-income communities around the world. Akanksha plans to partner with EdVillage on specific initiatives, including the development of a School Leadership Institute based in India as well as learning best practices around school quality review and overall school development from high-performing charter schools in the U.S.

EdVillage envisions a world where all children, regardless of their socio-economic status, have access to a high quality school that prepares them for higher education and a productive and fruitful life.

Our mission is to support Education Entrepreneurs (educators that have either started or plan to start schools) and School Leaders (principals of schools) from around the world that seek to start high quality, low cost or free, university preparatory schools in economically disadvantaged communities. We do this by providing access to world-class school leadership training, supporting entrepreneurs through the start-up phase of their school or network of schools, and by linking these entrepreneurs to each other and knowledge gained by others in their field.

EdVillage focuses on three aspects to improve education in multiple countries:

• Improving Innovative Schools
• Leadership Development
• Knowledge Sharing

About the India School Leadership Program

EdVillage believes that strong and visionary school leadership is a key success factor for quality schools. Principals or Head Teachers are the drivers of change and improvement at a school. Outstanding school leaders are able to define their vision, create an aligned organizational culture with a focus on student achievement, hire and motivate excellent teachers, and implement proven instructional practices.

The EdVillage Global Fellows Program, a partnership with the KIPP Foundation in the United States, has been the primary way for us to provide educators world-class school leadership training. EdVillage and KIPP recognize that bringing educators to the United States for the Global Fellows Program will become very expensive as the number of qualified educators increases. The need to prepare a greater number of educators to lead high quality schools is so great in India that we have decided to extend our partnership in order to create the India School Leadership Program (ISLP). This program will incorporate the successful practices from other global leadership programs including creation of a competency model, a recruiting process, classroom based instruction, experiential training, coaching and mentoring, and development of a peer network.

The EdVillage ISLP will be the cornerstone of a network of global school leadership programs. It has the support of a number of influential education organizations including Teach For India, the Akanksha Foundation in India. A partnership with the KIPP Foundation’s School Leadership Program will provide the India School Leadership Program with access to one of the leading principal training models. In order to fully contextualize the program, the EdVillage ISLP will work with India-based NGOs and government agencies to create a new model of school leadership to lead India’s efforts to prepare millions of children from disadvantaged backgrounds for a quality education. A successful organization will forever change the possibilities for all children in India.
