Alfiya’s Story

My name is Alifiya Gadiwala, and I am a Sr. Kg teacher at Abhyudaya Nagar School. I studied at J.B Petit High School for Girls and completed my Bachelors in Commerce at H.R College just last year. After my graduation I thought I wanted to work in marketing, but after I tried my hand at it, I strangely did not enjoy it. I knew that I would have fun at work only if I was passionate about it. I have always enjoyed spending time with children, and it gives me immense pleasure and satisfaction. On the advice of my friend, a fellow teacher at Akanksha, I started to volunteer at an Akanksha school and then finally applied for a full time teaching job with Akanksha. Within a few months I found myself as the Sr. Kg teacher at Abhyudaya Nagar.

It’s hard to believe but it’s been only 4 months since I joined here as a full time teacher. It seems like I have been here forever and I have loved and enjoyed each and every bit of it. I settled in extremely fast and felt very comfortable and welcomed mainly because of the warmth and support of my Ed leader Chitra Vishwanath and my other co-teachers. Teaching here never feels like work, it feels like a natural part of my life, something I look forward to every morning. The entire team here has been extremely encouraging which makes the overall environment positive and healthy.

My students have become my life. Over the last few months I have grown very fond of them and have become very attached to them. More than me teaching them, it is them who have taught me a lot and that too in a short span of time. Even though these children come from modest homes and live in dire situations, their innocence, cheerfulness and positive spirit teache me to look at the brighter side of life. Each morning these children make my day by running to hug me and by screaming “Alifiya didi”. This I feel is my true calling now!! Even once school is over they give me flying kisses and high fives. All these children are tiny bundles of joy that make me forget all my stress and worries as long as I am with them.
Akanksha not only works for its students but also knows how to keep its teachers happy. With regular training and personal development sessions, it truly builds you as an individual. With interesting activities and games and through interactive sessions, Akanksha allows us to know each teacher and makes us all believe in ourselves. What I love about Akanksha is that it gives you the freedom to teach the way you like, and gives you the platform to explore your potential by keeping the common goal of Akanksha in mind.

Akanksha for me has indeed been an enriching and gratifying experience and has really helped me discover a new side in me. It’s made me believe in myself and has given a new dimension to my life. Today I am a much more positive person and I love what I learn from the children and everyone around me.
