Akanksha Alumni

Seema Kamble

Seema is a first generation learner from a single parent home. Her mother works as a domestic helper and cleaner in a school in Worli. Seema started off as an extremely irregular student at Akanksha. In her years at Akanksha, she developed very strong internal values and work ethics. After graduating from Akanksha, she completed Junior College with 70%. She is now in her 2nd Year college in Commerce, focusing in Economics. She has done a year of teacher training and conducts tuitions for children in her community. She is computer literate and is a PR and HR trainee in the Akanksha office. She is also an active member of the Akanksha Social Leadership Program.

My name is Seema and I am 19 years old. I have studied in Akanksha for last 8 years and now I am part of the Akanksha alumni. Currently I am in second year of my Bachelors course in Commerce and also doing my internship in Akanksha in Public Relations and Human Resources departments. I also teach children, giving them tuitions at home. I was born and bought up in Mumbai and have been staying here since my childhood. There are four members in my family, my mother, two brothers and myself. My father left us when I was small. We tried to find him a lot but still don't know where he is. My mother is the only one who worked very hard and because of her we are here.

When I was small I was a little naughty and always used to fight with my elder brothers. As I was the youngest in the family, everyone used to love me a lot. I was a very shy girl and never used to speak in front of others. But now I have changed a lot. My biggest strength is that I am very focused in my work and I interact well with people. My weakness is that I get upset very fast, and I am quite emotional.

I have learned so many things in Akanksha that it is difficult to list. I have learned to be courageous, confident, to believe in yourself and never give up. I remember a time when I used to be irregular at my Akanksha center and Didi used to pull me out from my house. But now I tell other people to be regular at Akanksha, whether its students or volunteers. I have got lot of opportunities in Akanksha and through every opportunity I got, I have learned a lot. The thing that I want to change about myself is to control my emotions, and to always smile.
My mother and my Akanksha Didis and Bhaiyas have always been my source of inspiration and always trusted me and that I can "make a difference". I always remember the songs - "That's The Way It Is" And "A New Day Has Come" by Celine Dion, which I learnt at my Akanksha center. I got the messages - "never lose faith in yourself and there is always a new day". This inspired me to do so much in my life and made me realize the importance on believing in one.

My dream is to complete my graduation with a very good percentage, get a good job in the field of Public Relations and to get a new house for my family.
