The responsibilities of a teacher in an Akanksha center includes the following:
Academic Curriculum Implementation
- To teach to the objectives set by Akanksha and discussed with the center team.
- Supplementing available manuals and lesson plans with additional resources.
- Prepare and present lessons that will enable students to learn the specific subject skills and concepts contained in their curriculum.
- To implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
- To identify and select instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
Student Learning
- To provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
- To establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and center team including volunteers, social worker, assistant education manager and helpers.
- To develop and maintain a comfortable and orderly classroom atmosphere that will promote and support learning. Encourage student questions, and strive to answer them.
- To use data to drive decision-making around planning and delivery.
- Organize field trips and educational outings once a month to enhance student learning.
Administration
- Organizing the center 15 minutes before center starts.
- Creating and maintaining effective, relevant and varied class displays.
- Organizing and conducting monthly center meetings with the center team and parents meeting in coordination with the social worker.
- Maintaining child record book for each student to record observations made by the teachers and volunteers.
- Submissions of all progress reports of the children at center, Nanhi Kali forms, T-shirt size list, and indent forms.
- Maintain relationship with the space donor, keeping them informed of what is occurring in center, inviting donor to special events, and contacting space donor and office if anything is damaged on the premises.
Other Responsibilities
- To assume responsibility for meeting the goals set in the beginning of the month.
- To attend and participate in training and presentations in the monthly teachers’ meetings and other mid month trainings.
- To meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating.
- Assume total responsibility for the center if the co-teacher is absent, this may require teaching co-teacher’s class in his/her absence. This also includes pick-up/drop-off of the children if necessary.
