Our Goals for the children:

a) We want 100% attendance
b) We want to speak in English
c) We want them to have fun at Akanksha


Some of what we are learning:

  1. The alphabet
  2. Concepts like colours, days of the week, body parts
  3. Comprehending basic English

 

 


Umesh Shah

 

Umesh Shah, 6, goes to St Josephs School and is in class 1. He is at level 1 in the GD Somani center and has recently joined Akanskha.

Umesh comes from the Murti Nagar community. He lives with his parents, two sisters and one brother. His mother is a housewife and his father works in construction where he mainly picks up bricks.

Dhwani Didi says, "Umesh is one of the brightest students in my class. He is very responsive and can draw connections very easily to what is being taught in class. He is very a responsible boy and also helpful to other children in class."

Umesh enjoys drawing. He likes making apples and balloons and especially enjoys pictures that Didi brings in for them to colour in. He prefers Akanksha to his formal school because at Akanksha they do art.

 

Rohit Shinde


Rohit Shinde, 5, goes to a playschool. He is at level 1 has recently joined Akanksha.

Rohit lives with his parents, uncle, granddad and his sister. His mother is a maid and his father goes to work.

Nirmala Didi says he gets distracted easily and is quite mischievous. He knows a lot and answers most questions correctly. He loves coming to Akanksha and enjoys himself in class.

Rohit loves to draw pictures of onions, flowers and fish. He enjoys himself thoroughly when he plays and splashes in the water. He wants to be a Doctor when he grows up.
