Chameli Sahani, 10

Chameli Sahani, 10, goes to the Colaba Municipal School and is in class four. She is in level 2 and has been with Akanksha for 2 years.

Chameli comes from Ganesh Murti Nagar. She lives with her parents and her three younger siblings, two of whom also attend Akanksha. Her father is a driver.

Didi says Chameli has a good educational foundation. She is a clever student. She is naughty at times, and doesn’t always stand in a line, but overall she is disciplined. She respects her peers and understands values very well. Her parents value education a lot and she realizes the importance of it as well. She has a very good time in class and loves coming to Akanksha.

Chameli prefers Akanksha to her formal school because they don’t hit the students and also they don’t ask too many questions. She enjoys drama. She was in a performance put up on Graduation Day and was an elephant in that. She likes it when Didi takes them outside and they play with the ball. She says that before Akanksha she only spoke in Hindi, but now she tries to use more English. Chameli helps her mother everyday with all the daily chores like washing clothes and dishes and sweeping the floors and she is very proud of that. She wants to be a doctor when she grows up and because of that she tries to study very hard.
