Our center song:

We are Akanksha kids of Kothrud afternoon
We come to the center every noon.
Yogini didi and Hemal didi come here too.
They teach us language, math and values.
We play and dance and sing here
We forget our fears and worries here
We have different aims and targets
To reach there we have to struggle.
We’ll work as a team
And one day we’ll shine
In the sky like a moon beam.

Our Goals:

  1. Speak in English
  2. Teamwork
  3. Be Self-sufficient

Our favorite thinking question:

1. “If you had one lakh rupees, how would you spend it?”
Varsha- “My mother is ill, I would spend the money for her treatment” –

2. “A magic fairy tells you that you can wish for anything and it will come true. What will your wish be?”
Sahil - “Please make me a grown-up boy, so I will help my parents”

Programs and Special Events:

  1. Sunshine stars
  2. Diwali and Christmas parties
  3. Ganapati celebrations

Madina Pathan,
8

Madina Pathan, 8, joined Akanksha three years ago. Her parents are rag pickers and she has 3 other siblings Her father is very strict and hits the children a lot.

When she joined Akanksha, she used to scream, run around the class, bite, pinch and hit anyone. She used to spit on others and roll on ground. Gradually, with lot of positive reinforcement and by building a good rapport with her, she has shown tremendous improvement. Now she writes neatly and takes part in all activities. She even took part in ‘Sunshine Stars’, our big musical.

Shruti Kambhar

Shruti Kambhar comes from a joint family. When she joined Akanksha she was a very average child. She was very timid, and irregular. She did not like to come to Akanksha. She lagged behind other children of her group. She was moved to a smaller group, but felt very insulted and ashamed and stopped coming to Akanksha. With Didis and Bhaiyas continuously visiting her house and building a rapport with her, she started coming to Akanksha. She was given a lot of personal attention. With lots of positive reinforcement, love and care, she moved to the older level. Now, she has shown improvement is academics and behavior as well. With her friends, she actively takes part in drama also.
