    Vaishali Pawar, 9

Vaishali Pawar, 9, goes to N M Joshi School and is in class four. She has been with Akanksha for 3 years.

Vaishali comes from Ambedkar Nagar community. She lives with her parents, two sisters and one brother. Her brother also goes to Akanksha. Her mother is a tailor and her father works in a mill.

Mamta Didi says that Vaishali has improved over the years. Now she speaks in English 80% of the time in class. She has gradually picked up and now is one of the stronger students.

Vaishali really enjoyed the “Dream Project” which was the day Didi took them to the Akanksha Office where they talked and did some colouring. Her proudest moment was when she received a prize and 2 shiny stars from Shaheen Didi. When Didi did a Dreams session with the parents she realized that Vaishali’s mother had big dreams for her. She wants her daughter to be a Doctor when she grows up. Vaishali says she wants to be an Air Hostess. Her mother is very involved with her children’s education. They invite Didi over for lunch or dinner and walk her all the way out when she leaves. Didi says that the community is friendly and always welcomes her.

    Shraddha Gore, 8

    Shraddha Gore
, 8, goes to N M Joshi Marg School and is in class 3. She has been with Akanksha for 3 years.

Shraddha lives in the Ganesh Nagar community. She lives with her parents and her sister. Her mother is a housewife and her father is a taxi driver.

Mamta Didi says that Shraddha is a very bright student who wants to succeed. She grasps concepts well and wants to emulate everything she learns. Her mother is concerned because she doesn’t seem to like Marathi anymore and only wants to use English. She stands 4th in her school, and she reads books higher than her level.

Shraddha prefers Akanksha to her formal school because they do story reading, which she really enjoys. Her favourite day at Akanksha was when Didi took them out to Bajrang Krida Mandal. There they played tug of war. She enjoyed this very much and her team also won. She wants to be a Policeman when she grows up.
