Our song:
‘I am so special. I am so special. If you look you will see, someone very special and that’s me and that’s me”

Here is what we learn:

"If you had a magic wand, what would you change?
‘My home first, then I’d get an airplane. I won’t change Chitra didi."
– Salvador, 5

“I learn numbers, alphabets and painting. I come to Akanksha and do masti (mischief) but also learn values and English.”
– Priti Saroj

"Didi tells us when to use words like sorry, thank you, please. Didi teaches us to draw. I like to draw. I don’t get to draw in school.” – Rishikesh

“Didi teach us to talk in English and write. Didi teach me maths.” - Saili

Programs and Special Events:

  1. We are a new center. Our center had a special center opening this year!
  2. Our sponsors Novartis arranged a magic show for the kids and had given them snacks and gifts that the kids enjoyed.

Rishikesh Sahibrao Godeswar
, 7

Rishikesh Sahibrao Godeswar, 7, goes to Adarsh Nagar Municipal School and is in class 3. He is in level 2 at the Yuvathi Sharan center. He joined Akanksha in January 2005.

Rishikesh lives with his parents, older sister and Dadi (grandmother). His father works with LIC and his mother works in a building at Sea face.

Didi says that Rishikesh is a good student, one of the few who can already converse in simple English. He is confident and very respectful of others. He is neat and is generally helpful. He enjoys himself thoroughly. He participates in everything and asks questions.

Rishikesh says, “My favorite color is orange. I had a dream one time, I found sticks. So I made a house and painted it orange, green and red. I love painting houses but my parents say no.
I had another dream where I was speaking to God. I asked him to make the Akanksha center big and I come first number in school.” His favorite day was when they made flowers with red and green thread.

Rishikesh wants to be an inspector when he grows up. “Inspector does good work – catches “chor” and “goli” (thieves) and then put in the jail”.

Chetna Vijaypawar, 7

Chetna Vijaypawar, 7, and goes to Janata Municipal School and is in the second standard. She is in level 1 at the Yuvathi Sharan centre.

Chetna lives with her mother, father, younger sister, Dadi and Uncle. Her father catches fish and her mother works as a domestic helper at someone's house.

Didi says Chetna is smart and picks up fast, but because she is young, her foundation is still being built. She is generally very quiet, but she understands everything. She does her homework regularly. She wants to learn and is very aware of good values. She definitely enjoys coming to Akanksha.

Chetna says, “I love painting peacocks. I want to be a tailor. I want to make clothes and shirts. I will make them Pink.”

Her best day so far was been when she saw magic. “A magician had come here and showed us magic”.
