Rubina Sheikh

Rubina’s parents used to beg for a living. They lived under a bridge in the city. After the death of her father, Rubina’s mother shifted to Chandan Nagar community with four of her other sisters. Her mother wanted her to stay home and look after the younger kids. Rubina came to Akanksha despite this. She also goes to formal school and convinces others her age to come to Akanksha and formal school. Rubina has participated in the musical and has been actively participating in every activity in class.

Rubina comes to Akanksha because she sees hope for a better life. She has fun studying. She has learned to speak in English and has developed a sense of pride in her learning. She has developed a sense of self esteem because of which she tries to convince others to come with her.

Rohini Dongre

When Rohini lost her father, her mother had resigned to fate and did not give education any importance. Her grandmother was also extremely reluctant to send her to formal school as well as to Akanksha. Now that Rohini speaks in English and looks happy and wants to come to Akanksha regularly, her mother and grandmother see hope. They have realized the potential of education.

Rohini has participated in the musical and has actively participated in all class activities. Rohini comes here because she has fun while learning ,does creative things and gets the chance to be a child, while preparing to be an independent person. She is aware of cleanliness and has developed a sense of self-esteem and confidence through interaction with her peers and Didis.
