Akanksha is excited to partner with EdVillage, a U.S. based nonprofit that is seeking to support networks of schools serving children from low-income communities around the world. Akanksha plans to partner with EdVillage on specific initiatives, including the development of the Indian School Leadership Institute as well as learning best practices around school quality review and overall school development from high-performing charter schools in the U.S.
Ed Villages is currently looking for a Founding Executive Director for the new Indian School Leadership Program. The Founding Executive Director (ED) of the India School Leadership Program (ISLP) will work closely with the co-founders of EdVillage to design and direct the annual ISLP, beginning with the first cohort of school leaders in May 2013. The Founding ED will be responsible for hiring and managing a team, recruiting and selecting school leader participants, designing the curriculum for the leadership program, implementing and ensuring the overall quality of the program, and participating in education reform discussions in India.
The Founding ED position starts in early 2012, preferably January or February. The Founding ED will first study excellent school leadership programs in the United States, with significant time spent learning from the KIPP School Leadership Programs team. This will require an extended stay of 4 to 6 months in the United States before returning to India. During this time, the Founding ED will work closely with the co-founders of EdVillage to finalize the plans for the ISLP and the recruitment and selection process for School Leader participants.
In September 2012, the Founding ED will return to India to continue hiring key staff, designing the ISLP plan, recruiting school leader participants, and finally implementing the program. The first ISLP will launch in May 2013.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Constructing all aspects of the India School Leadership Program, including selecting and hiring staff, designing curriculum, finding and securing a location for the program, and teaching pieces of the curriculum
• Designing and implementing a plan to recruit a large pool of excellent School Leader candidates
• Devising and utilizing a rigorous selection process to select the best candidates for the initial cohort in 2013
• Forging partnerships with key education and community organizations
• Creating the budget and managing the program’s finances
• Securing, engaging, and managing external supporters (fundraising and others)
• Hiring and then managing the India School Leadership Program team
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or equivalent degree required, preferably a master’s degree
• Demonstrated track record as a highly effective teacher and/or school principal
• Proven ability to manage and lead adults, and to develop leadership potential in adults

Compensation
