Assistant School Leader

The role of the assistant school leader is to assist the school leader in ensuring that high standards of excellence are maintained in the school, with the primary responsibility to oversee the operations and smooth management and administration of the school to ensure that the School Leader is able to focus on maintaining a high quality of learning for each student.

Operations Management
• Manage the operations and logistics of the school, including but not limited to the execution of all systems and processes related to HR, Finance, Data, Government-related and Administration
• Be the main liaison for all Akanksha head office support/administrative functions

Academic Program
• Oversee the planning and curriculum development for teacher teams as needed- could be by subject or by grade level depending on skills
• Observe classroom instruction and give feedback for the relevant grades / subjects
• Use these observations to discuss training plans with the school leader

School Data and Records
• Oversee the collection and analysis of student data
• Ensure documentation and collection of effective plans/other resources from teachers

Community Engagement
• Lead the recruitment of the appropriate number of students each year from target communities
• Design and execute the parent engagement plan for the year – monthly meetings, opportunities for involvement, relationship building, etc with the social worker that engages the entire school team
• Ensure student attendance through the year
• Minimize dropout rate for students

Government/Policy
• Maintain positive relationships with school-based government officials
• Ensure schools fulfill municipality requirements/regulations

Administrative
• Assist the School Leader to execute the performance management system for all school-based staff
• Ensure that the school budget and provide on going analysis on trends to the School Leader
• Submit required data to the Finance, HR and Impact departments

Professional Development
• Oversee that the social worker is able to develop the team of helpers in each school

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree with 4-5 years of teaching experience
• Clarity of concepts underlying teaching methods, problems, and issues related to curricula in English, Social studies, General Science, Math.
• Fluency in English

Preferred
• Experience in school leadership
• Fluency in Hindi and Marathi to be able to communicate with families and government officials.
• Familiarity with contemporary issues in Indian education
• Willingness to travel for professional development periodically
