Teaching at Akanksha

The role of a teacher at Akanksha is extremely important, as the children depend on their teachers to bridge the gap between the known and the unknown, to bring the outside world to them, to help them dream, to uncover their potential, to push them when everyone else has given up, and to empower them.

The teachers’ role is to guide the students towards academic achievement while inculcating self esteem and values that encourage them to think critically and make informed choices, eventually enabling their students to transform their lives. Teaching at Akanksha is just as much about making a change as it is about creating a change in you. As a teacher, we can say that it is more than teaching subjects to a group of children. It is about constantly challenging those 30 extremely eager children in your class through meticulous planning and creating an environment which is fun for you and your students.

The role does not end in the classroom.  It is incomplete without the parents becoming your partners. Stepping into the communities, meeting the parents and families of your children – you understand their stories, their smallest highs and their deepest lows.

You will meet an entire community of fellow teachers, education leaders, social workers, who will support and walk with you on a path which takes courage. Your journey will continuously reaffirm how crucial you are in bringing a change in the lives of the children.

To become a teacher at Akanksha, you need to come in with deep commitment, a ‘whatever it takes’ attitude, strong English and a graduation degree. While a teaching qualification is preferred, it is not necessary.
