Chief Operating Officer

The Chief Operating Officer will manage all of Akanksha’s national operations, including all existing and new sites. S/he will assume responsibility for ensuring that all operations deliver high-quality impact to the children and communities Akanksha serves. S/he will work extensively with the CEO to define the organizational vision and goals, both internally and externally. The COO will be an experienced, dynamic leader who embodies all of Akanksha’s core values and believes wholeheartedly in its mission.

Major Responsibilities include:

    • Lead strategic thinking and planning efforts; make final decisions on negotiable Akanksha design and   implementation choices
    • Work with the CEO to develop the vision and execution for all Akanksha operations
    • Partner and work with private and public funders
    • Help shape the agenda of government and other external stakeholders
    • Actively build relationship with stakeholders (community, government, schools, participants etc.) and   proactively respond to their needs

Experience

    • 8-10 years of experience in leading teams in complex situations, preferably in organization head/department   head role
    • Startup experience/evidence of entrepreneurial behavior and ability to lead in unstructured environment
    • Working knowledge of fiscal and budgetary principles



Chief Financial Officer

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will head Akanksha’s Finance and Fundraising departments and be responsible for budgeting, accounting and fundraising activities at both the national and regional levels. S/he will be responsible for garnering necessary financial support to sustain the organization’s ongoing activities as well as future growth plans and for encouraging optimal utilization of these funds. The CFO will report directly to the CEO and work closely with the COO as part of the strategic development team of Akanksha. S/he will be a dynamic leader who embodies all of Akanksha’s core values and believes wholeheartedly in its mission

Major responsibilities include:

    • As member of the strategic development team of Akanksha, formulate its growth plans and oversee   development of ongoing programmes to maximize impact; prepare comprehensive blueprints for its phased   national growth
    • Build the staff, skills, systems, processes, policies and infrastructure needed for effective financial management   as the organization establishes a nation wide footprint
    • Develop a budgeting process for the organization’s growth plans and subsequently consolidate the same with   existing operations
    • Ensure efficient use of annual budget by all branches; generate regular financial statements and analyses for   the management team and the Board of Directors
    • Garner the financial support necessary to sustain the organization’s ongoing activities as well as future growth   plans
    • Manage relations with large grant agencies, foundations and corporate groups to avail of fundraising   opportunities
    • Oversee submission of necessary grant and corporate giving proposals and ensure adherence to the required   level of financial reporting to donors
    • Collaborate with outside legal counsel to proactively manage the organization’s legal and compliance needs

Experience:

    • Over 5 years of experience in senior positions in financial management
    • At least 3 years of experience as an accounting professional desirable
    • Experience as senior management with a national NGO or in a corporate with turnover above Rs 500 crores   desirable

Director- Impact

Overview
The Impact Manager will evaluate Akanksha’s impact on the children and communities it serves, in a responsible and systematic way. S/he will design evaluation systems for assessing the proper functioning of Akanksha’s staff, programs and operations. S/he will be a passionate individual committed to education reform and work with Akanksha’s team to ensure the high-quality delivery of all its programs and services. The Impact Manager will train and oversee the accurate implementation of evaluation systems in each new branch Akanksha opens.

Major responsibilities include:

    • Understanding Akanksha programs and deliverables
    • Devise and implement systems to measure impact
    • Use data to inform strategy and build support

Experience:

    • 3-5 years of experience working with performance evaluation design and administration in social or corporate   sector
    • Experience developing and managing database and conducting appropriating analytical reports for organizational   use
    • Experience managing teams and complex projects

Director- Marketing & Public Relations
The Director of Marketing and Public Relations will be expected to maintain the integrity of the Akanksha brand and key messages in all communications and marketing efforts. In addition to creating a national marketing and promotional plan, s/he will be responsible for working with all national sites to ensure effective use of marketing materials and ommunication of impact.

Major responsibilities include:

    • Developing and implementing a marketing and promotion plan
    • Designing marketing materials
    • Managing the website, updates, annual reports, etc
    • Creating opportunities for Akanksha to reach its target audience
    • Ensuring continued integrity of Akanksha brand
    • Being a passionate spokesperson who can move people to do something
    • Finding interesting and unique ways of reaching people
    • Managing a marketing/PR team
    • Conceptualizing Akanksha events that can be uniform across the country
    • Assisting the Finance General Manager to meet sponsors and bring in funding

Director- Curriculum Development and Teacher Training

Overview
The Director of Curriculum Development and Teacher Training will oversee the development of learning objectives and curriculum for each Akanksha level in schools and centers as well as design and develop a professional development program for all Akanksha teachers. S/he will work with a team of Akanksha education managers and teachers to execute the development of all required curriculum and training material. S/he will work collaboratively with the Head- National Training and Support to ensure that training program for new Akanksha franchise heads and teachers is streamlined and complementary.

Major responsibilities include:

    • Oversee the development of level-wise learning objectives and curriculum
    • Help design appropriate level-wise assessments to accurately assess student learning levels
    • Plan and design Summer Institute
    • Design on-going professional development program for all teachers
    • Develop condensed induction program for new teachers joining mid-year
    • Work with Akanksha National team to develop strategy for national expansion, particularly around ensuring   quality of learning and impact

Experience:

    • 5-7 years experience as an educational leader – head, principal, co-ordinator, program designer
    • Minimum 3-5 years experience as a teacher and/or trainer in educational environments

    • A self-starter who is independent, detail-oriented, with ability to multi-task and work within tight timelines, and   be a strong team player

Director- Entrepreneur Training and Support

Overview
The Director of Entrepreneur Training and Support should be an experienced trainer and program developer who is able to design and implement a multi-faceted, three-year training program for its education entrepreneurs launching Akanksha franchises around the country. The National Training and Support Head will be based out of Akanksha Mumbai and will be working closely with the Akanksha National team to design and oversee this program. In the first year the training and support head will develop a comprehensive training plan and content for the entrepreneurs of new centers. He/she will work along with the trainers and conduct the training for 10 entrepreneurs. The following years he/she work with the Head of Curriculum Development/Teacher Training to co-ordinate and oversee the Summer Institute and ongoing training programs and provide support and technical assistance to the entrepreneurs and trainers.

Major responsibilities include:

    • Design a comprehensive training plan and curriculum for entrepreneurs
    • Provide technical assistance and ongoing support to entrepreneurs
    • Develop yearly training plans for the different hubs in collaboration with entrepreneurs and trainers
    • Plan and conduct/organize trainings at HQ
    • Document training sessions and feedback with trainers
    • Train and support 3-4 trainers who will be actively in charge of training and support at different metros

Experience:

    • 5-7 years experience as a trainer in leadership/management/education
    • Minimum 3-5 years experience as a trainer with educational institutes, preferably at the managerial level

Director- Human Resources

The Director of Human Resources should be an experienced professional in the field of human resources and recruitment. S/he will be required to build and sustain recruitment, hiring, training and retention systems and policies to form a national team capable of delivering high impact for Akanksha’s programs and centers.

Major responsibilities include:

    • Ensuring the consistency of organizational culture and delivery of key messages
    • Being able to understand the HR potential of new cities
    • Thinking out of the box to meet the organizations growing needs
    • Identifying trends in the organization and create training modules to help solve for them
    • Supporting training team to ensure all team members understand the HR processes & adhere to them
    • Building the various modules on training, performance appraisal and growth, retention and hiring.
    • Finding ways to keep employees motivated
    • Ensuring that there are enough systems whereby people can be heard
    • Serving as a spokesperson for Akanksha
    • Strengthening existing systems and modifying them for a larger organization

Director- Fundraising

Overview
The Director of Fundraising will lead and coordinate Akanksha’s fundraising activities at both the national and regional levels. S/he will be responsible for garnering necessary financial support to sustain the organization’s ongoing activities as well as future growth plans. The GM, Fundraising will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and as part of the senior management team, will be an embodiment of Akanksha’s core values and have a wholehearted belief in its mission.

Major responsibilities:

    • Develop corporate giving packages and identify list of potential donors
    • Prepare proposals to corporate entities and deliver presentations
    • Supervise and coordinate donor recognition, tax donation receipting and regular reporting to donors
    • Research foundations and agencies across the world for funding potential
    • Prepare grant proposals and reports in appropriate formats
    • Coordinate with regional teams to garner donations in kind (space, supplies, computer hardware etc.)
    • Design and implement innovative fundraising events and campaigns
    • Coordinate donor recognition and tax donation receipting
    • Work closely with CFO and GM, Finance in budgeting exercises
    • Apprise the national team of any external factors relating to finance that may require a re-look at operations or   strategy of the organization
    • Set fundraising targets for regional fundraising teams; participate in their annual performance review
    • Allocate effectively resources gathered by Akanksha National among the regional teams
    • Work with regional fundraising executives to maximize the financial support received by the organization as a   whole
    • Work closely with the marketing & communication teams to develop publicity material for fundraising purposes
    • Liaise with Akanksha’s existing partner fundraising groups and further expand the network to other countries

Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred
    • Experience in dealing with potential donors preferred
    • Should have exhibited the ability to lead teams effectively

Director- Finance

Overview
The Director of Finance will manage Akanksha’s finance and budgeting activities at both the national and regional levels. S/he will maintain transparency and accountability in Akanksha’s financial controls and planning systems and ensure optimal utilization of its financial resources. The GM, Finance will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and as part of the senior management team, will be an embodiment of Akanksha’s core values and have a wholehearted belief in its mission.

Major responsibilities:

    • Participate in definition and allocation of responsibilities and tasks in the finance function at the national and   regional levels
    • Develop robust systems and processes for financial reporting from the regional teams and provide inputs on   design of appropriate Management Information Systems
    • Develop a budgeting process for the organization’s growth plan and subsequently consolidate the same with   existing operations
    • Lead annual budget setting and ensure regular review and monitoring of budgets
    • Develop internal audit procedures for regional teams
    • Supervise account consolidation at the national level at regular intervals
    • Provide analysis of any significant variances at regular intervals and follow up to identify risks
    • Prepare annual financial report and individual project reports for donors
    • Assist in the development of funding proposals and regular reports for donors
    • Liaising with external auditors and other regulatory bodies for audit and tax matters
    • Prepare financial reports for foundations/ grant making bodies
    • Prepare and administer training modules for finance staff at both national and regional levels
    • Participate in annual performance review of regional finance managers, identify their learning and development   needs

Qualifications:
Education:

    • Recognized Indian or international accounting qualification

Experience:

    • At least 5 years of experience as an accounting professional required; experience in designing and/or   implementing multi location accounting systems highly preferred
    • Knowledge and experience of all facets of financial management required
    • Should have exhibited the ability to lead teams effectively
