The Savitribai Phule School (SBP) started in June 2008 and currently has classes in Jr. KG through 3rd grade. The school is a partnership between Thermax Social Initiative Foundation (TSIF), The Akanksha Foundation, and the Pune Municipal Corporation.
Most of the students are first generation English learners, and a majority of the parent community is engaged in unskilled jobs, with both mothers and fathers working. The school aims to involve parents in every possible way in the everyday functions of the school. The PTA has been established to ensure that parents are equal partners in the school’s decision making.
At the heart of the school is a wonderful team of passionate, committed individuals: the teachers. Right from greeting the students in the morning to the debrief meeting in the evening, teachers aim to make a long term impact on their student’s lives. The one thing that stands out is the culture of oneness amongst all. The collective vision of the school is to equip children with the skills that would help them make informed choices and lead empowered lives.
