The role of a teacher at Akanksha is extremely important, as the children depend on their teachers to bridge the gap between the known and the unknown, to bring the outside world to them, to help them dream, to uncover their potential, to push them when everyone else has given up, and to empower them. The teachers’ role is to guide the students towards academic achievement while inculcating self esteem and values that encourage them to think critically and make informed choices, eventually enabling their students to transform their lives.

The responsibilities of a teacher in an Akanksha school include the following:

Academic Curriculum Implementation

  • To teach government approved curriculum and supplement it with additional resources.
  • Prepare and present lessons that will enable students to learn the specific subject skills and concepts contained in their curriculum.
  • To make sure that the respective portions of the subject curriculum are taught in a timely manner.
  • To implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • To identify and select instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.

Student Learning

  • To provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process for the specific subject.
  • To establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and school team.
  • To develop and maintain a comfortable and orderly classroom atmosphere that will promote and support learning. Encourage student questions, and strive to answer them.
  • To use data to drive decision-making around planning and delivery.

Administration

  • To assist in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.
  • To create and maintain effective, relevant and varied hall displays.
