The key to each student’s academic and character development in school lies in the hands of teachers and school leaders. It is commonly recognized that an improvement in school leadership can drive dramatic improvements in student learning and achievement outcomes. Instructional quality makes a difference in the classroom, while school leadership ensures that the school’s culture, academic program, teacher quality, and systems and processes are set up to help each child succeed.
Existing school leaders face new challenges everyday and teachers transitioning to the role of school leader face significant changes. In 2007, Akanksha addressed this need and leveraged years of experience in running educational programs in Mumbai and Pune and initiated The School Leadership Institute (SLI) to support Akanksha schools. The SLI aims to build the critical skills, knowledge and attitudes required of exemplary leaders in its existing and new school leaders, through in- and pre-service training. The program comprises of residential training during the summer, school-based practical experiences, and regular, need-based training workshops throughout the year.
