Inspired by Gandhiji’s words “Be the Change that you Wish to See in the World”, this leadership program encourages students to “Be the Change.” Through a curriculum that focuses on giving them an understanding of social issues and builds social leadership values, this program helps them take the initiative to be the change agents in their communities. Students learn to bring about changes first in themselves, then in their families and homes and finally in their communities.

This year’s project, conceptualized entirely by the students, is to go into the Bombay Hospital Pediatric ward every week and do activities with the children there in an attempt to show empathy, love and care to other children. All the activities are developed and implemented by the SLP students.

Sameer says, “ Our project ‘Pragati’ means growing. We all came to give service in hospitals because no N.G.O is here for them. We started this program in Bombay Hospital. The children are having fun and even we having fun. Our plan is to make this Pragati Project into a Pragati N.G.O, where we can have many hospitals and many small faces will grin and laugh!”

Here is what Akanksha students have to say:

“ Through SLP, I got know my responsibility towards my society and also got to know that if I want to see the change in something like I want to see my community clean for that I will not wait for somebody to come and clean my community I will take that initiative and clean my community. That’s why we say be the change that you want to see in others which our great freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi said. We have to walk the talk.” - Prashant

“SLP is the platform for young youth were we learn to think and to give our opinion. SLP has helped us to improve our leadership qualities. It has also helped us to know the world and the whole worlds problems through current affairs. I have learnt a lot from this program, like taking initiative and being of help to others.” - Sumeet
