Our volunteers and mentors become role models and friends to all Akanksha students, often times finding themselves becoming more and more involved with Akanksha as the years progress.

Experiences

I wanted to move to Mumbai and after doing some research I found glowing reviews of Akanksha all over the internet. As soon as I got in contact with them, I was impressed by the professional support I received to apply for a work visa. I was placed in the counselling team, to work within two schools and to develop training based on my experience working as a group facilitator in the charity sector in the UK. I am thrilled to be working in these dedicated teams of passionate, fun and inspiring colleagues. The work that is being done is groundbreaking. I have learnt so much, worked across two cities and been given the freedom and responsibility to develop ideas and innovate. And the children are amazing, I love going to work to learn from them!

Akanksha, in my opinion, is unique.
The ensemble of their three main objectives – Academic Achievement, Youth Development and Community Engagement lets children discover their individuality and their capabilities in a way I have not seen before. For children from difficult backgrounds, Akanksha provides a safe and exciting learning space where these youngsters can explore, learn, and grow in their own way.
Not only do the children get the opportunity to identify and unlock their strengths, but the teachers and volunteers also get to delve into unknown places of their aptitudes and personalities. Akanksha, for me, has become a synonym for relentless growth, teamwork, support, and most of all joy for learning.
They are the change we need in the educational system!

Mentoring in Mumbai

Akanksha has collaborated with DSP Merrill Lynch, ICICI, Voltas Ltd., J.M. Financial, Mastek Foundation and the RPG Group to establish mentoring groups. Individual mentors from various organizations have also volunteered.

If you or your organization is interested in collaborating with Akanksha for the Mentor Program, which requires 8-10 mentors who are willing to volunteer two hours every week as a group, please get in touch.
