Recognition and Response

Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj English Medium School

At Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj English Medium School students are always encouraged to learn and explore through various activities and practices that are carried out in the school.

One such unique practice is ‘Recognition and Response’, which helps teachers understand their students and identify their individual needs.

Commonly known as RnR, the practice consists of teachers observing a student’s performance and behavior in the classroom for a month and recording their observations.

After a thorough evaluation of their observations, teachers design and implement practices that can help students develop holistically.

Student evaluations are carried out across four primary domains – Perceptual and Motor Skills, Socio-Emotional Skills, Self Management Skills, and Language Development Skills.

Each domain has a few indicators that are recorded as anecdotes and collectively all the four domains are used for evaluation.

After this process is complete, teachers work with five students, every day, on skills that they need to develop.

This practice was introduced in school five years ago and every student has benefitted from this as they receive the support that they need, and their teachers can keep track of their progress and development.
